Grant Funding

Nursery Education Grant  and Free Early Years Education Funding for 2, 3 & 4 year olds

Both settings are open all year round and follow the funding guidance of the relevant local authority (Bristol City Council  or Bath & North East Somerset).

Delivery of “15 hours” Free Childcare from September 2017 for 2, 3 & 4 year olds

From September 2017 both nurseries deliver the universal 570 hours per year, commonly known as "15 hours free childcare," as 11.5 hours of Free Entitlement stretched over 50 weeks of the year. All children will be eligible for the universal 570 hours funding from the term after their childs 3rd birthday. This funding can be taken as a stand alone total number of hours attended or it can form part of a normal booking with parents/carers making up the additional costs.

We will deliver the 570 hours in the following way:

  • As the nursery is open all year round (AYR) will deliver 11.5 hours per week for 50 weeks of the year.
  • This leaves a 2 week funding shortfall which will be covered by 1 week of nursery close at Christmas combined with 1 week being booked as holiday during the year or leaving for school 1 week earlier. Children usually leave us for school at the end of August.
  • Children will still be entitled to 4 weeks no charge holiday, however we will claim funding for the sessions they do not attend/ are on holiday, apart from the one week mentioned above. (funding will be used as a retainer to keep your child’s place open when they do not attend nursery)
  • A maximum of 6 hours funding can be claimed in any one session. Funding cannot be claimed during the lunch hour of 12:30 – 13:30 if parents are unwilling to pay for the meal cost.
  • Any hours that are purchased after funding has been deducted will be charged at the corresponding hourly rates (the first 4 hours at the half day rate - £5.63 per hour, any remaining hours at the full day rate - £4.63 per hour). As you are in effect only paying for a half day session not a full day session.
  • Meals are not included as part of the funded hours.
  • Any discounts are only applicable to hours purchased not hours attended. Only hours purchased will count towards discount eligibility.
  • Alternatively, a fully funded  place (free place) will consist of 2x 4 hour morning or afternoon sessions and one 3.5 hours morning or afternoon session. A minimum of 1 of each session will be required per week i.e. 2 mornings (08:30 – 12:30) and 1 afternoons (13:30 – 17:00).

If your child attends more than 11.5 hours per week your child’s funding will be allocated evenly across the number of days/ sessions they attend per week (up to a maximum 4 days). Any hours that are purchased after funding has been deducted will be charged at the corresponding hourly rates.

If your child is accessing nursery free entitlement on a day that falls as a bank holiday, it will automatically be booked out as part of your holiday entitlement (to ensure your free entitlement is not used on a day when we are closed).

Delivery of “30 hours” Free Childcare from September 2017 for 3 & 4 Year Olds

As most of you will be aware the government plans to increase the number of free hours for 3 and 4 year old children will be entitled to from September 2017.

Eligible working families will be entitled to an extended funding amount commonly known as “30 hours free childcare” which is actually 1140 funded hours per year per child, from the term after their childs 3rd birthday. More information can be found on the following link:

We are pleased to say that Orchard Lea is going to deliver the increased 1140 hours from September and plan on delivering these hours in the following way:

  • Children will be entitled to 4 weeks no charge holiday, however we will claim funding for the sessions they do not attend/ are on holiday.
  • Alternatively, a fully funded (free place) will consist of 5x 4.5 hour morning and afternoon sessions. A minimum of 2 of each session will be required per week i.e. 2 mornings (08:00 – 12:30) or 2 afternoons (13:30 – 18:00) excluding Tea.
